People
have often asked what the name 'Cato Maren' means or stands for, so
here is a little bit of background for those of you curious enough to
wonder:
Very
simply, 'Catus' is the Latin word meaning 'sharp intellect'
or 'good judgement'. It
was used by the Romans to describe a skillful or experienced person.
In particular it was applied to Marcus Porcius 'Cato', an orator and
writer who was renowned for his skill at both written and verbal communication
and for living a simple, modest and moderate life. Any associations
with a character from the 'Pink Panther' are unintended!
'Maren',
means 'of the sea', also from Latin. The power of this element should
never be underestimated, and we can learn so much from it that can be
applied equally to both life and to business.
Put
them together and we have 'Cato Maren', (pr. Kay-to Mah-ren) which apart
from the fact that it sounds quite nice, was chosen to represent 'Good
Judgment of the Sea'.
